Best Time to Trek Langtang Valley: Month by Month
The best time to trek Langtang Valley is autumn, from late September to November, and spring, from March to May. Autumn usually has the clearest mountain views and the most settled weather. Spring brings rhododendrons in the lower forests and warmer days.
Early December is still good if you are ready for cold nights at Kyanjin Gompa. Avoid June to August, when monsoon rain brings leeches, cloud and landslide risk on the road and lower trail. Since the 2026 floods the road in is rougher than before, so check the latest conditions before you book.

| December | Cold, often clear, quiet | Good early in the month |
These are general patterns. Mountain weather can change in any month.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn is the best time for Langtang. The monsoon usually clears by late September, leaving clean air and sharp views of Langtang Lirung and the peaks around Kyanjin Gompa. October is the most popular month. November is quieter and colder at night, with some of the clearest days of the year.
Langtang gets more rain than the Everest region, so early September can still be wet. Keep a rain jacket close.
Spring: March to May
Spring is the second best season. In March and April the rhododendron forests below Lama Hotel turn red and pink, and the days get warmer. Views are usually best in the morning. By May, cloud builds in the afternoon as the monsoon gets closer, so start walking early.

Winter: December to February
Winter is cold but often clear and very quiet. At Kyanjin Gompa, nights can drop to around -15°C, and the trail above Langtang village can ice over. Microspikes help, so ask your guide before you go. Some teahouses close for the season.
Early December is the best part of winter. January and February are only for well prepared trekkers with warm gear and some flexibility.

Monsoon: June to August
We do not recommend Langtang in the monsoon. Rain makes the lower trail muddy and full of leeches, cloud hides the mountains, and landslides can block the road and trail. Some teahouses above Langtang village close.
If you are in Nepal at this time, see our guide to trekking in Nepal in the monsoon for drier options like Upper Mustang.
Getting There: The Road After the 2026 Floods
The August 2026 floods damaged the road towards the Langtang trailhead. The road has reopened but is rougher than before, and the trek now starts a little higher up, around Syabru, instead of Syabrubesi. The start point may change again as the road improves.
Road conditions also change with the seasons, and the monsoon is the worst time for landslides. We check the road and the trailhead before every departure. See our Langtang Valley trek difficulty guide for what the drive and first day are like, and our Nepal flood travel update.
