Bhutan is the only carbon-negative country in the world and one of the most tightly controlled tourist destinations in Asia. All foreign visitors pay a Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per day, which funds free healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. MountainKick operates three Bhutan itineraries from Kathmandu: the Bhutan Dragon Quest cultural tour covering Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro including Tiger's Nest Monastery; the Chomolhari Trek to the base of Mt Chomolhari (7,326m); and the Enhanced Druk Path Trek between Paro and Thimphu through high-altitude lakes and forest. All itineraries include the SDF, licensed Bhutanese guides, accommodation, and internal transport. Best seasons are spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November).
