What It Really Looks Like
Luxury Nepal Tour: What to Expect
warika's in Kathmandu and Dhulikhel, Tiger Mountain Lodge above Pokhara and Meghauli Serai in Chitwan. Each one is the best in its area.
A dawn flight along the Himalaya with a window seat for everyone. Back in time for breakfast.
Private jeep safaris and a dugout canoe trip with a naturalist. One-horned rhinos are seen on most trips.
Your own guide and driver throughout. Short flights between stops, so no long bumpy drives.
This is Nepal for people who want to see the best of it without roughing it. You stay in the country’s finest hotels, travel with your own guide and driver, and take short flights instead of long drives. The pace is easy. There is time for a spa afternoon or a long lunch on a terrace.
You start in Kathmandu at Dwarika’s, a hotel built from carved wood and brick saved from old Newari houses. Your guide takes you to Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Patan at the times of day when they are at their best. On the third morning you fly along the Himalaya past Everest, then spend the afternoon in the old city of Bhaktapur.
Mountains, lakes and jungle
That evening you drive up to Dwarika’s Resort in Dhulikhel and watch the sun set over the snow peaks. Wake up to the same view, then fly to Pokhara. Tiger Mountain Lodge sits on a ridge above the valley with the Annapurnas right in front of you. You get a full day here to do as much or as little as you like.
Next you fly south to Chitwan National Park. Meghauli Serai looks over the Rapti River and the park beyond it. Go out on jeep safaris and a dugout canoe trip with a naturalist to look for rhinos, crocodiles and, if you are lucky, a tiger. Then fly back to Kathmandu for a farewell dinner.
Who this tour suits
Couples, honeymooners, families and older travellers who want comfort and service at every stop. There is no trekking. Every day can be changed to suit you, and we can add extra nights anywhere.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive in Kathmandu
Your guide meets you at the airport and drives you to Dwarika’s. Check in and settle in. The hotel is like a small museum, with carved windows and doors saved from old Newari buildings. In the evening your guide joins you for dinner and walks you through the days ahead.
Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Patan
Start at Pashupatinath, Nepal’s holiest Hindu temple, on the banks of the Bagmati River. Then walk the kora around Boudhanath with local pilgrims and have lunch on a rooftop looking down on the stupa.
In the afternoon cross the river to Patan. Its Durbar Square is the best kept of the three old royal squares in the valley. Your guide takes you into the courtyards and workshops most visitors walk past. Back at the hotel by late afternoon.
Everest Flight, Bhaktapur and Dhulikhel
An early start for the mountain flight. You fly along the Himalaya for about an hour and see Everest and its neighbours up close from the window. You are back at the hotel for breakfast.
Later we drive to Bhaktapur, the best preserved of the old cities. Walk its squares and lanes, watch the potters at work and try juju dhau, the local yoghurt. Lunch is at a Newari house in the old town. Then continue up to Dwarika’s Resort in Dhulikhel in time for sunset over the mountains.
Sunrise in Dhulikhel, Fly to Pokhara
Wake early for sunrise over the Himalaya from your room or the terrace. Spend the morning at the spa or join a yoga session. After lunch we drive to Kathmandu airport for the short flight to Pokhara.
Tiger Mountain Lodge sits on a ridge above the Pokhara valley. Machhapuchhre and the Annapurnas fill the view from the pool and the terrace. Dinner is at the lodge.
Pokhara at Your Own Pace
A slow day. Take a guided walk through the villages around the lodge, or go down to the lake for a boat ride on Phewa and a visit to the World Peace Pagoda. You can also stay put and enjoy the pool, the spa and the view. Your guide will plan whatever you like.
Fly to Chitwan
A short flight takes you down to the plains at Bharatpur. From there it is a drive through farmland and Tharu villages to Meghauli Serai on the edge of Chitwan National Park. In the afternoon walk along the river with a naturalist and watch the sun go down over the Rapti.
Safari in Chitwan National Park
Head into the park early in an open jeep, when the animals are most active. One-horned rhinos are seen on most trips. You may also see deer, wild boar, monkeys and, with luck, a sloth bear or a tiger. Later glide down the river in a dugout canoe and look for crocodiles and birds along the banks. Chitwan has over 500 bird species.
Fly to Kathmandu, Farewell Dinner
Drive back to Bharatpur and fly to Kathmandu. The afternoon is free for shopping in Thamel or Patan, or a quiet afternoon at the hotel. If the Everest flight was cancelled on day 3, we try again this morning. In the evening we have a farewell dinner together.
Departure
Free time depending on your flight. We drive you to the airport three hours before departure.

Four of the best hotels in Nepal, each picked for its setting as much as its rooms. Every one has a spa, good food and staff who know what they are doing.
Breakfast is included every day. In Dhulikhel, Pokhara and Chitwan you get all meals at the hotel, and the food is very good. You also get a welcome dinner and a farewell dinner in Kathmandu. Dwarika’s has Krishnarpan, one of the best places to try a long Nepali tasting menu.
What Our Trekkers Say
“I’m already planning for the trip AGAIN and you would know which company I’d choose AGAIN…”
Finally, I had the opportunity to meander across the splendor of the Himalayas. My first concern after researching everything there was to know about Nepal was my safety and my child’s welfare. But upon our arrival at the airport, I found out that Kathmandu is one of the meanest places…
“MountainKick is haven for trekkers and one cannot afford to miss it if you are interested in trekking in Nepal.”
To whoever reading this and wondering about the legitimacy of this company, they are for real. The team is genuinely dedicated to making your trekking memorable and rewarding. Such is the professionalism of the company that they went steps further to assist us that included the tracking down of the…
“We liked the concern of this company for its staffs and the environmental awareness and it has.”
There was always a response from Jagat as we had so many things to ask. We had insisted on having a Nepali guide instead of a westerner because we had to make sure the money we spend actually goes to Nepali people. We chose this company because we had heard…
“We had the trip of our lifetime”
We had the trip of our lifetime thanks to the warm hospitality bestowed upon us and the beauty of such amazing country. From well-organized trips, exotic locations, cultural sightseeing to the thrill of safari, “soft” trekking to Poon Hill, everything was memorable. Our trekking guide was Shiva, apparently named after…
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tour private?
Yes. Your guide, driver and car are just for you. We don’t mix groups. The price is per person and depends on how many people travel together.
Can I change the hotels?
Yes. If you would rather stay somewhere else, or one hotel is full, we can offer other top options such as Hyatt Regency or Kathmandu Marriott in Kathmandu, Temple Tree in Pokhara and Barahi Jungle Lodge in Chitwan. We will send you a new price.
Is it good for a honeymoon?
Very. The hotels are quiet and romantic and the pace is relaxed. Tell us it is your honeymoon when you book and we will let the hotels know.
Can children join?
Yes. All the hotels welcome families. Chitwan is a favourite with children. Some safari activities have age limits, so tell us their ages when you book.
How fit do I need to be?
Not very. There is no trekking. Some temple visits involve steps and uneven ground, and Bhaktapur is best seen on foot. Anyone who can walk for an hour at a slow pace will be fine.
What is the best time to go?
October to April. October, November, March and April have the clearest mountain views. December to February is cool and dry but foggy in Chitwan in the mornings. We don’t recommend this tour in the monsoon, from June to September.
Can I add more days?
Yes. Popular extras are a second night in Dhulikhel, a helicopter flight to Annapurna Base Camp from Pokhara, or a few days in Bhutan at the end. Tell us what you have in mind.
