Essential Trip Information

Travel Insurance: Please make sure you take out travel insurance at home before arriving in Nepal. It is mandatory and cannot be purchased in Nepal. Your insurance should include coverage for high-altitude trekking activities, emergency evacuation, and medical treatment. Your insurance agent will know which insurance plan suits your travel needs for cultural trekking activities.

Medical Conditions: Please inform us and our guides if you have any medical condition that might affect your trip. Please consult your doctor beforehand for any precautions you need to take and always carry medicines if you need them. This is particularly important for homestay experiences where medical facilities may be limited.

Altitude Sickness Prevention: While the Tamang Heritage Trek reaches moderate altitudes (maximum 3,165m at Nagthali), altitude sickness prevention should still be considered. Diamox (Acetazolamide) is commonly used for altitude sickness prevention, but should only be taken after consulting with your doctor about proper dosage and potential side effects. Most trekkers experience minimal altitude-related issues on this route due to gradual ascent and moderate elevations.

Vaccinations: Recommended vaccinations before coming to Nepal include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, COVID-19, and seasonal influenza. Consult your healthcare provider at least 4-6 weeks before travel for personalized vaccination advice. Additional protection against Japanese Encephalitis may be recommended for rural area travel.

Spare Days: It is advisable to free up a few days before and after your trip schedule. For reasons beyond our control like flight delays, accidents, and natural hazards, the itinerary may have to be altered. Plan 2-3 additional days beyond the standard itinerary to avoid missing international flights due to unpredictable Himalayan weather.

Cultural Preparation: The Tamang Heritage Trek involves authentic cultural immersion through homestay experiences. Please be prepared for family-style accommodation, traditional meals, and participation in local customs. Respect for local traditions, dress codes, and photography etiquette is essential. Basic Nepali phrases and cultural sensitivity will enhance your experience and show respect to host communities.

Dietary Considerations: If you have specific dietary requirements or food allergies, please inform us in advance so we can communicate these to homestay families and guesthouses. While accommodation can usually be made, options may be limited in remote villages, so flexibility is appreciated.

As one of the core guiding principles for Mountain Kick, we always give back to the mountain community in any way we can as a means of gratitude. The people who live in the Himalayas and share their homes with us deserve to have all their little problems fixed which seem very basic for outsiders but are commonplace in rural Nepal. The people lack proper access to healthcare, sanitation and education but a little effort from travellers goes on a long way to solve these issues. Mountain Kick has made it its corporate social responsibility to help improve the living standards of the local community. We make donations to their cause, organize social campaigns and programs and also have a few trips designed to mix a little volunteer work in your holiday.
