Annapurna Base Camp Food Prices: What You Actually Pay

By Thapa Kumar · Oct 20, 2026 · 6 min read
Quick Answer

Food on the Annapurna Base Camp trek costs about NPR 2,800 to 4,500 a day (roughly USD 20 to 35) for three meals and a few hot drinks. Prices rise as you go higher. A cup of black tea costs NPR 100 in Chhomrong and NPR 200 at Himalaya. Fried noodles go from NPR 580 to NPR 750. Above Himalaya, at Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC, prices go up a little again.

These prices come from real menus our team photographed on the trail in 2026.

How Prices Change as You Climb

Everything above the road has to be carried up by porters or mules, and that cost goes into the menu price. The further you get from the road, the more you pay.

Chhomrong is the cheapest of the three. It’s lower and closer to the road. Himalaya is the most expensive, because everything there comes up the valley on foot. Prices keep rising through Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC.

Ghorepani Prices

Moonlight Lodge, Ghorepani, 2,880m. Day 4 of our trek.

Ghorepani is the stop before the Poon Hill sunrise. These are drink prices from Moonlight Lodge.

Ghandruk and Tadapani

Some ABC treks start from Ghandruk instead of going via Ghorepani, and our standard route passes through Tadapani after Poon Hill. Menu prices in both villages are about the same as Ghorepani and Chhomrong, so use the lower trail budget below.

Chhomrong Prices

Elysium Guest House, Chhomrong, 2,170m. Days 6 and 10 of our trek.

In Chhomrong, the menu is printed by the village tourism management committee, so lodges in the village usually charge the same prices.

Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC

Above Himalaya, the menus are very similar, but prices go up a little again at each stop. ABC is the most expensive point on the trek. Budget a bit more for your last day up and your night at base camp.

How to Save Money on Food

  • Eat dal bhat. It’s filling and usually comes with free refills.
  • Share a pot or thermos. If two or three of you drink tea together, a pot or thermos works out cheaper than single cups.
  • Refill your water. Buy purified water by the litre, or treat your own, instead of buying bottles. See our guide to drinking water on Nepal treks.
  • Bring snacks from Pokhara. Chocolate bars and Pringles cost much more on the trail.
  • Eat where you sleep. Teahouses expect you to have your meals where you stay.
